AMSOIL Pricing Surchage

Effective immediately AMSOIL has implemented a temporary ~10% pricing surcharge on all of their products – except for oil filters.

Effective April 8 2026, AMSOIL is implementing a temporary surcharge across our product portfolio. The surcharge will vary by product type and be built into the product price rather than applied during the transaction so it is abundantly clear for customers. This is a temporary measure to recover spiraling costs.

Why did AMSOIL apply a surcharge?

Turmoil in the Middle East is disrupting supply chains and driving up costs of virtually everything used to manufacture and distribute lubricants, including base oils, additives, packaging components and freight.

The situation is highly volatile and changing rapidly with the supply of raw materials under threat industry wide. While AMSOIL has absorbed these costs up until now we have received multiple large price increases from our suppliers.

AMSOIL will adjust the surcharge as costs dictate in the months ahead to minimize the impact on customers.

What can I do?

Commercial accounts who use lubricants every day should check stock and reach out to suppliers to confirm pricing and availability. Check if it’s possible to use a higher grade product or alternative in your existing machinery – take the time now to understand what products you are able to pivot to for cost or availability issues. Is it possible to reduce the number of common products you have to stock? Be wary of any non-standard lubricants required as those may become more difficult to source.

Average consumers won’t be as affected – today the costs have increased but products are still all available. Lubricants aren’t the same as toilet paper shortages seen in Covid – no need to panic buy. Lubricant manufacturing is a slow moving process – there are “buffers” of finished goods that will eventually run out in the next 3 months all along the supply chain from oil tankers, refineries and even your buddy Tony who has been hording hundreds of litres of 5W30 for the past 10 years.

My recommendation remains what it has always been. Have at least 1 oil change and filter available on the shelf for each of your vehicles. If you are a high mileage driver – stock 2 for your heavily used vehicles.

If you’re concerned – think about upgrading to a higher quality product now and when the time comes to change it look at a Used Oil Analysis to have the data required to safely decide if you can extend your oil change interval on that piece of equipment.

2025 Kilbride United Church Car Show and BBQ

On Saturday September 6th, 2025 join us at the Kilbride United Church for their 1st car show featuring all vehicles +25 years and older.

The local volunteer firefighters will be cooking up a breakfast and lunch BBQ with beverages and baking available.

We will be there with the 1997 Subaru Sambar mini-truck!

Rain date is September 13th – but the weather looks good with a “crisp” morning.

2025 GHMA Ford Stampede

If you are interested in Ford vehicles both old and new come join us at the 2025 Golden Horseshoe Mustang Association’s All Ford Stampede Car Show at the Flamboro Speedway on Sunday August 24th, 2025.

I’ll be in the vendor section handing out stickers, product booklets and there will be a few example products on the table. I’ll be signing up new customers – no one really wants to lug a case of 12 quarts of Z-Rod oil around a car show on a hot summer day. Get it delivered! Stop by with any questions you might have an be sure to grab some candy.

Will be bringing my 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD this year. Did an early oil change to get rid of the break-in material on Monday night after the heat broke in Southern Ontario. Also drained and filled my Power Transfer Unit (PTU) while I had the belly pan off. There was some forum suggestions to check the level as they can be slightly under filled from the factory. Glad I did. More on that in a future post.

If you make it to the show. Be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.

Earth Day 2025

On Easter weekend I had a chance to get out with Employees 2, 3 and 4 to help make our neighbourhood ready for spring. Our local town group sponsored the 28th annual Campbellville RoadSide cleanup this year.

It was a good reason to get out the new Subaru minitruck and cover some ground. Helped reduce the number of steps needed to cover the road and carried all the trash we found. 3 bags, a TV, mirror and more.

The road is noticeably better without all the coffee cups and trash cluttering the bright green new spring growth including trilliums.

’88 John Deere 175 Hydro

Worked on a neighbours 1988 John Deere 175 Hydro machine that had been sitting for a while. It was in overall good shape but needed to be pushed into the garage with starting issues. The good news was it drove home and cut some grass too.

Replaced/cleaned the fuel system, did some electrical diagnostics, rebuilt and replaced some deck pulleys, replaced the transmission shifter spring – which is an inexpensive part but surprisingly difficult to do, changed the oil, cleaned the carb and set the engine idle speed using a Treysit sirometer (aka analog tachometer).

I really enjoy working on these older machines when they aren’t someones primary mower. Not sure how many of the newer machines sold today will still be around and will able to get parts to fix after 36 years.

Ford Maverick – Second Oil Change

After 13,300 km the onboard oil life monitor suggested it was time to schedule an oil change. It said I had 18% oil life left when I changed it at ~16,300km.

Everything looked pretty much the same as the last time I was under there. No oil leaks from the filter or drain plug – CV half shafts were not leaking. Just a simple oil change on ramps and using a creeper to get the hairy cardboard belly pan off and then back on the road for another 13,000 kms.
